About Us

Hello, my name is Iris and I am a girl who is very passionate about animals.  I love ALL animals and hope to work with them when I am older.  I have a huge passion for pit bulls because I think they are a misunderstood breed that has been given a bad rap by people who believe everything they hear and see on t.v.  In my own experience, I have come to know pit bulls to be some of the sweetest pups ever.  You can tell they just want to have fun and be loved, but most people will say they are just mean fighting dogs.

Just a few weeks ago, my mom rescued a pit bull off the street after he was almost hit by a car, and so our own personal pit bull journey begins…….

When I first saw the pup my mom brought home they were waiting for me at the bus stop and I could not believe my eyes!   Even though you could see his ribs and spine poking through his fur, he was the cutest thing ever!  At first, my mom and dad would not let me get too close to him because they were not sure how he would react with kids.  I already knew what to do though because they had taught me how to behave around any strange animal.  When I let him sniff my hand, he really started to wag his tail.  I knew we were going to be great friends!

Because he was such a sweet boy, we were certain his parents would be looking for him so we decided we would take him in, give him a warm place to rest his head and get some food in his belly until they were found.  After taking him to a vet to see if he was chipped (he wasn't), searching several online lost and found pet websites and calling a couple different human societies to see if anyone had reported him missing, we couldn’t find anyone who was looking for this boy.   My mom and dad said they would see what they could do to find his parents or a good home of his own and until then, we would be his foster family.

Not knowing what this pup had experienced in his life, and because we already have two sweet pups of our own, we had a few concerns.  1) What if he had parasites or some sort of sickness?  2) How will he do with kids?  3) Will he be dog aggressive?   4)  Food aggressive?   5)  People aggressive?

At the suggestion of a good family friend who works with bull terrier rescues, we contacted a local pit bull rescue to see if we could get some suggestions and maybe some help.  The response was almost immediate…..they were overwhelmed with rescues and unfortunately were not able to take another one in.  Once they realized we were willing to foster until we could find this pup a new home they said they would do anything they could to help us.

The very same day my mom brought the pup home, her and my dad met with Jason, the owner of Friends to the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue.  He gave them a new crate, two bags of dog food, flea prevention, a dewormer and the pup a new name……Argus…..the faithful dog of Odysseus.  Jason also arranged for Argus to have vaccinations that upcoming Saturday and another appointment for the Friday after that to have him neutered…..all at the rescues expense!  I could not believe they were doing all of this for free!  That was just the beginning of me realizing how amazing the whole pit bull community is.

Since having Argus in our home, I have done a lot of research on the pit bull breed.  Did you know that farmers would often entrust their children to be watched over by the family pit bull while they were out working in the fields?....or that pit bulls do not have some special enzyme that make their jaws lock?  There really is a lot of very interesting facts and myths I think most people could really benefit from reading.  That’s why I decided to start this website.

Through this website I will post facts about and the truth behind many of the myths surrounding bully breed dogs.  I will also post photos of families and their bully breed pups, photos and links to rescued pups that are looking for their forever homes and links to rescues and how you can help them.

If I can change the mind of even one person who thinks that pit bulls and other bully breed dogs are nothing but mean fighting machines, my job here will be done!

    1. Awwww....thank you so much! I hope to change the minds of many people! Also, it's not just the Pit bulls that people need to be weary of, it's any stray dog. And again, thank you!

  3. Thank-you, Iris. My hope is that we who love so-called "dangerous" breeds can change the world. Even if it is one person at a time.

  4. Love that you have this blog, Iris! I am sure it will open the eyes of a lot of people! What people don't understand is: it's not so much the breed but the breeder and the dog owners. A dog only knows what it is taught! Good job!
